NHS Cyber-attack

Several NHS organisations were affected by a cyber-attack yesterday (12/05/17) which caused a major alert across the entire NHS

St. Helens & Knowsley Health Informatics Service (STHKHIS), who provide our IT equipment and infastructure, took the decision to disconnect our local network from the wider NHS network, so NHS services across St. Helens were protected from this attack. However, this meant that we lost access to our systems from approximately 1:30pm on Friday, so we were unable to:

  • access medical information
  • make appointments or view existing appointments
  • process prescriptions
  • access messages sent via Online Patient Services
  • make referrals
  • order blood tests or x-rays
  • receive emails sent from or send emails to addresses outside the STHKHIS network
  • access the internet

Please note that Out Of Hours services are currently available as normal

Today, we have been advised by STHKIS that connection to the Practice's clinical software has been restored, however, until the cyber-attack is fully contained and its impact has been assessed, we will continue to have restricted access in other areas, including the use of email.
Unless there are any further incidents, the Practice should be able to access patient information, and work as normal on Monday

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience that the problem has caused, and remind patients that this was a major incident which has had significant impact on the whole NHS, and so ask that they are patient as the Practice & the NHS recovers from these attacks, and catches up with outstanding work from Friday afternoon
